Extreme metal legends Cradle of Filth has returned to Zagreb after 15 long years! Of course, many of us had opportunities to see them at multiple festivals but never the less, the fact caused euphoria and that was the main and the best side effect of this concert: incredible atmosphere in the audience and so many thrilled, ecstatic and familiar faces!!
Cradle of Filth was formed in the English town of Suffolk 33 years ago. The early days were to some extent marked by the sound of black metal, but over time they added gothic and symphony influences to their musical expression which was extremely emphasised by female vocals and their band setup for live performances. So far, they have released 13 albums, and the last of them is “Existence is Futile”, which was very well received by critics and global fans and was promoted last night. Three years after their founding, they released the iconic “The Principle of Evil Made Flesh”, which was included in the “top 10 most important black metal albums of the last 20 years” by Metal Hammer magazine. Four years later, they released probably their most famous release, “Cruelty and The Beast”, a concept album dedicated to the Hungarian baroness with a rather awkward character, Báthora Erzsébet and soon reached the peak of popularity. Cradle of Filth has always drawn its inspiration from Gothic literature, poetry, mythology and horror films.
I was overall satisfied with the duration of the concert and set list. The concert was opened by “The fate of the world” and was continued mercilessly with all of their hits. Seventh song was “Nymphetamine Fix”, which was the absolute climax and peak of the concert, of course. Encore included: “A Buise”, “The Promise of Fever”, “Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids”, “Her Ghost in the Fog” and “From the Cradle to Enslave”.
