European “Modern Primitive” tour
SCAR OF THE SUN opened the concert and warmed up the atmosphere for the great bands ahead of us. The band plays a combination of modern and groove metal. They have three albums behind them: “A Series of Unfortunate Concurrencies” (2011), “In Flood” (2016) and Inertia (2021) published by Napalm Records. The band was formed 20 years ago in Athens and last night they proved that they are a well-functioning coherent group of interesting musicians.
OCEANS, a rock/modern metal band performed next and really engaged with the audience and received good feedback. The band were formed in 2017 on the Vienna-Berlin route. They have two albums behind them: The Sun and The Cold (2020). and “Hell is Where the Heart Is” (2022) released by Nuclear Blast. They proved that a great future is ahead of the band as they sounded very powerful live!
EQUILIBRIUM held a hell of a good gig as finally they got the overall crowd engaged and forced all smokers from outside of the venue to rush in and see the band! The band was founded in 2001 in Starmberg, Germany. They came to Croatia for the second time and lifted the atmosphere as their concerts are always joyful and packed with fun! It’s always great to attend the concerts that are combining several genres and generations of musicians as it’s always great to see younger among the “veterans” and have dynamic evenings, sometimes even with some surprises, such as falling in love with a “new band”.
Their sound can be described as a combination of folk, pagan, symphony and black, but recently they have included elements of more modern and industrial metal and with their sixth and last album “Renegades” they switched to English. Up to this point they sang in German but remained lyrically and thematically based on Germanic fairy tales and mythology.
SEPTICFLESH was formed in 1990 in Athens and since then they have released 11 albums, the most current of which is “Primitive Modern” from 2022, which they promoted on this occasion at Boogaloo. Their style can be described as symphonic death metal, and this is best evidenced by the live album Infernus Sinfonica MMXIX, which they recorded with a symphony orchestra and choir in Mexico. The band returned to Croatia after a long 13 years since the band performed at the same venue.
It is very interesting how Greek bands have a special charisma as something in the atmosphere and style instantly gives the vibe of a genuinely mystical and dark music and Septicflesh definitely had a very strong power over the audience as their skill of combining orchestral, melodic and brutal death metal elements was perfect!
The band prepared a special treat for the local audience as they performed “Coming Storm“ for the first time live and the audience went wild! Many of their hits were warmly welcomed, but one of many highlights we should mention was the magnificent performance of „Persepolis”. Encore included performances of “Anubis” and “Dark Art”, after which we went to afterparties or home with hearts and souls full to the maximum.
