Šajeta is a group founded in 1993 in Opatija and is one of the most prominent representatives of the legendary ča-val. Charismatic frontman Dražen Turina founded the band ‘Yars’ in the early 90s, in which he very quickly began writing compositions in Chakavian. They were called ‘Šajeta & Capra d’oro’, but they soon changed their name to Šajeta, which means “thunder” in Chakavian. So far, they have released six albums: Congratulations and Applause (1994), Blues of the Asparagus Picker (1996), Božja beseda i vražje delo (double edition, 1997), Istradamus vulgaris (2000), Age of Aquarius (2003) and Kope and spades (2007). When megahits such as “Party for the team”, “Košulja plava”, “Evergrin”, “Moji koroki” and “Flying Barbara” start playing, no one can remain indifferent. Šajeta is synonymous with a wild party and a quality hangover the day after. However, the popular Šajo is best known for his collaboration with doyen Elio Piska, which is certainly the highlight of his career.
