BRITISH 80’S ROCK LEGENDS THE GODFATHERS ARE COMING TO CELEBRATE THEIR 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR ON SUNDAY, 30.03.2025. GARAGE ROCK ATTRACTIONS EROTIC BILJAN & HIS HERETICS AND MOJO MEN FROM MARS WILL BE GUESTS AT THE ZAGREB BOOGALOO
On Sunday, 30.03.2025, British 80’s rock legends The Godfathers are returning to Croatia! After last year’s excellent concert where they marked 35 years since the release of their cult album “Birth, School, Work, Death” which elevated them to the top of the world rock scene, they are celebrating the band’s 40th anniversary on this tour. As an overture for this special evening, two Croatian garage rock attractions Erotic Biljan & His Heretics and Mojo Men From Mars will perform.
The Godfathers were founded by brothers Peter and Chris Coyne after the breakup of the previous band The Sid Presley Experience in 1985. Their basic rock’n’roll, oriented with raw lyrics and fierce performances, positioned them as one of the best live attractions of the time. The first album, ‘Hit By Hit’, was released in 1986, after four great singles ‘Lonely Man’, ‘This Damn Nation’, ‘I Want Everything’ and ‘Love Is Dead’, complete with a great cover of ‘Cold Turkey’ in the original by John Lennon. Two years later, they release their legendary album “Birth School Work Death”, and the single of the same name becomes a hit on Billboard, as well as the singles “Cause I Said So” and “If Only I Had Time”.
In 1989, they released the album ‘More Songs About Love And Hate’, which was published under license by Jugoton, and thus The Godfathers conquered a wider local audience. The album features the hits “She Gives Me Love”, “Those Days Are Over” and “I’m Lost And I’m Found”, which now, along with “Birth School Work Death”, “Cause I Said So” and “If Only I Had Time”, are included in most local club sets. The Godfathers first came to our region in 1990 and held a memorable concert in the packed hall of Zagreb’s Dom Sportova, where the then-rising band Majke played as their opening act. The next album, “Unreal World”, was released in 1991, and in 1992, the first live album with the provocative title “Dope, Rock & Roll & Fucking In The Streets” was released. The next album, simply titled “The Godfathers”, was released in 1993, also known as “The Orange” due to its characteristic cover, and The Godfathers visited us again and held another concert in Zagreb’s Dom Sportova. The next album, ‘Afterlife’, was released in 1995, and the band disbanded in 2001. However, they reunited in 2008 to promote the reissue of their debut album, and as part of the tour, they performed again in Zagreb at the Rockajfest on Lake Jarun. In 2010, the band released ‘The Godfathers – Shot Live At The 100 Club’, recorded at London’s legendary 100 Club, and in the same year they also performed at Zagreb’s Boogaloo. In 2013, The Godfathers released the highly acclaimed album ‘The Jukebox Fury’ and performed at Zagreb’s Vintage Industrial Bar, which was their last performance in Zagreb. In 2019, another The Godfathers live album, ‘This Is War! The Godfathers Live’, was released.
Their latest album, Alpha Beta Gamma Delta, was voted their best album alongside Birth, School, Work, Death and More Songs About Love And Hate, and features thirteen songs, described by singer and band founder Peter Coyne as a “sonic tour de force” and is their first studio release since 2017’s critically acclaimed A Big Bad Beautiful Noise. “Alpha Beta Gamma Delta is definitely one of the best albums The Godfathers have ever made – it’s exciting, dark, dangerous contemporary rock & roll!” says Coyne. The album was written and recorded during the Covid pandemic and produced by The Godfathers bassist and former member of punk rock legends Damned, Jon Priestley. After the single “I’m Not Your Slave” / “Wild And Free” released in 2020 and the EP “Midnight Rider”, “Alpha Beta Gamma Delta” is the first album by The Godfathers to feature a new lineup, consisting of Coyne, Priestley, former Heavy Drapes’ members Billy Duncanson (drums) and Richie Simpson (guitar), and guitarist Wayne Vermaak from The Great St Louis.
Don’t miss seeing these 80’s rock legends and their timeless hits live because every concert is packed with real rock energy! The Godfathers will also play a selection of their hits, including “Birth, School, Work Death”, “She Gives Me Love”, “Cold Turkey”, “Love Is Dead”, “I’m Lost And Then I’m Found”,… as well as a few songs from the new album.
Two Croatian garage rock attractions Erotic Biljan & His Heretics and Mojo Men From Mars will perform as special guests before The Godfathers. Erotic Biljan & His Heretics have released three studio albums, participated in a bunch of compilations, played a bunch of great gigs and received praise from music critics. Basically, they are definitely one of the best rock’n’roll bands from this area, which unfortunately the media still pays too little attention to, and which will be a great overture to this real rock spectacle! Club attraction Mojo Men From Mars are a Zagreb garage punk’n’roll trio that, in their mix of high-octane rock’n’roll, combines the stench of city streets with all the with all their musical influences. Their sound bomb is a combination of the first wave of punk from ’76 and ’77, the wildest rockabilly from ’50 and The Cramps, after whom they took their name, and the inevitable Motorhead. At this concert, they will promote their new single ‘Sex’n’drugz’n’rock’n’roll’, which announces their new album, which is currently tentatively titled ‘Red Planet Rumble’.
The doors of the Boogaloo hall are scheduled to open at 8:00 PM, Mojo Men From Mars will begin their performance at 8:30 PM, Erotic Biljan & His Heretics will take the stage at 9:15 PM, and the stars of the evening, The Godfathers, will begin their performance at 10:00 PM. Tickets are priced at €25 in advance, while they will cost €28 on the day of the concert, and can be purchased via the Entrio.hr system online, at Entrio.hr points of sale and at Dirty Old Shop, Tratinska 34, Zagreb
