A great black metal spectacle is being prepared on Saturday, May 10th at Boogaloo! On this occasion, the masters of Norwegian blackness will be presented to the Croatian audience for the first time: 1349! They will be joined on the European “The Wolf and the King” tour by three other great bands: the German The Ruins of Beverast, the American Vitriol and the Swedish Sarcator. Early bird tickets for the price of 29 euros can be purchased through Hangtime ticketing, and after that the pre-sale price will be 33 euros. On the day, if there are any left, they will cost 36 euros. Tickets are also available at the Dirty Old Shop!
1349 was formed in 1997 in Oslo, marking the year when the plague came to Norway, and the members were previously in the band Alvheim. In that initial phase, they did not hide the influences of bands such as Mayhem and Celtic Frost. “I didn’t like the direction black metal was going in the mid-90s,” recalls Ravn, vocalist and spiritus movens of the band 1349. “It started to lose everything I loved about black metal—the darkness, the eeriness, the primal emotions that had captivated me and brought me into that world. Suddenly, bands were appearing that were using, wearing pirate shirts, and looking like goths. It destroyed something that was really close to my heart.” He gathered bassist Seidemann and then-guitarist Tjalve around him to realize his vision of reviving the original spirit of black metal. The long-standing lineup, consisting of Ravn, Seidemann, guitarist Archaon, and drummer Frost (Satyricon), has remained unchanged since 2001. “I found people who felt the same way I did,” Ravn says of his bandmates. “We wanted to bring back the distinctiveness of Norwegian black metal as it was in the early 90s. Every time we release an album, it’s our inspiration and foundation.”
The Wolf and the King is the latest foray into that mission. 1349’s eighth album shows how they channeled the primal energy of black metal’s second, revolutionary phase through ancient mysteries and the relentless global chaos of the 2020s.

The Ruins of Beverast is a blackened doom metal project formed in 2003 in Aachen under the leadership of Alexander von Meilenwald. “Beverast” is its derivative of the word “Bifröst”, influenced by the Old Norse term for the bridge between Midgard and Asgard. At performances, Alexander has a backing band, while on all six studio albums he did the vocals and instrumentals himself. Even Der Spiegel wrote about his albums. On this occasion, along with a section of the biggest hits from a very rich career, he will also promote the most current album “The Thule Grimoires”.

Vitriol is an American death metal band formed in 2013, and they come from Portland, just like their black metal counterparts UADA. They began their story eight years earlier as Those Who Lie Beneath. They have two albums behind them, and the fresher of them, Suffer & Become with 10 songs, was released by Century Media.

Sarcator is a black trash/metal band formed in 2018 in Trollhättan, Sweden. Interestingly, they named themselves as a combination of their role models: Sarcofago + Kreator. It is a very young band as some of the members were in their early teens when they started it. They used this very youth as a powerful flywheel in their creation, so they already have three albums behind them, while “Swarming Angels & Flies” saw the light of day in the middle of January this year. It is interesting to point out that the son of Marko Tervonen, guitarist of the legendary The Crown, also plays in the band.
