After almost three years and a fantastic concert in Močvara, Belgian post metal giants Amenra are returning to Zagreb, to Boogaloo to be exact. On the wings of their new album “Skunk” which saw the light of day in early February, they will once again show why they have a reputation as a band whose performances are simply not to be missed. The date to mark in your calendars with a crayon is May 2nd (Friday). Early bird tickets of 28 euros are sold out. Amenra was founded in Kortrijk in 1999 by vocalist Colin van Eeckhout, guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove and former bassist Kristof Mondi, who came out of the hardcore punk band Spineless, and today the band also consists of drummer Bjorn Lebon, guitarist Lennart Bossu and bassist Tim De Gieter. In their very rich and fruitful career, they released six studio albums, dozens of EPs, splits, compilations, and even the book “Church of Ra”.
Their style can be described as a combination of doom, sludge, hardcore, and at live concerts the visualizations that accompany their music play an important role, which the audience in Močvara could very well see for themselves. They point out the legendary band Neurosis as important role models, for whose publishing house Neurot Records they released the album Mass V. They founded the band collective Church of Ra in 2005, where they are joined by notable representatives Wiegedood, Oathbreaker and The Black Heart Rebellion.
“Skunk” is the soundtrack album of the Belgian film of the same name, in which Colin has a minor role as the father of a troubled teenager. The album features seven songs, including “Song to the Siren,” a cover of Tim Buckley’s 1970 smash hit.
