July Jones – a rising queer music star opening act Palaye Royale at the Culture Factory!
Zagreb, May 17, 2024 – The American rock trio Palaye Royale, like a real rock & roll circus, tirelessly travels around the world, and on June 3, they will perform at Tvornica Kulture in Zagreb. The infectious mix of art rock, glam punk and Britpop created by the brothers Remington Leith (vocals), Sebastian Danzig (guitar) and Emerson Barrett (drums) is now coming to Croatia for the first time, just a few weeks after their song “Lonely” reached 100 million streams on Spotify!
Despite their classical musical upbringing, Palaye Royale have always carried the raw essence of rock-and-roll in their blood. They draw as much inspiration from cinematography and philosophy as from their musical idols, especially those from the 1960s and 1970s, but also more modern bands like My Chemical Romance, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys. It sounds as colorful as the band members look, and in energetic and visually charged performances they feel equally good on the stage of smaller clubs and big festivals.
JULY JONES
Rising Slovenian music star July Jones will have her first performance in Croatia as the opening act for Palaye Royale. With her edgy electro-pop hits and lyrics that unabashedly explore relationships, queer identity and mental health, July brings energy and authenticity to the stage. As a 16-year-old, July moved from Slovenia to Great Britain to study jazz singing, but quickly transitioned into the life of a true alt pop star. Boasting writing credits for the likes of BTS, Girli, Mae Muller, Naughty Boy, Lauren Saunderson, 99 Souls, Nasty Cherry and Zolita and as the opening act for Slayyyter, Yonaka and Girli, July is an incredible forward thinking talent whose melodies and lyrics create a provocative, powerful and passionate story. Using her platform and profile to push boundaries, July is determined to be a positive voice for young people and speak openly about her own experiences as a queer woman from Eastern Europe. In 2022, her song “Girls Can Do Anything” was used as the background music for TikTok’s International Women’s Day campaign, as well as ELLE UK’s IWD campaign. In 2023, she also won the Music Moves Europe award.
Palaye Royale, already as teenagers, at the urging of their mother’s friend Paul Weller from the band The Jam, leave school and Las Vegas and move to Los Angeles in search of the American musical dream. They organize their first gigs in the basement of their house and soon attract the attention of rock royalty like Courtney Love, Scott Weiland and Kim Fowley (the infamous producer/manager of the legendary Runaways). At the urging of fan Alex Burdon, daughter of The Animals’ Eric Burdon, Palaye Royale signed with Sumerian Records in 2015, then debuted in 2016 with the album “Boom Boom Room (Side A)” produced by Smashing Pumpkins’ James Iha.U meanwhile, Palaye Royale released “Boom Boom Room (Side B)” (2018) and “The Bastards” (2020) and “Fever Dream” (2022), in which these three classically trained musicians returned to their roots and composed most of the album on piano. Equal parts ecstasy and deep meditation on the state of the human psyche, the result is Palaye Royale’s boldest and most visionary opus to date. Unstoppably moving forward, the band released an EP called “Sextape” in December 2023, followed by a five-song EP “Songs For Sadness” in January 2024, announced by the single and video for the song “umakemenotwannadie”, and recently also released a video clip for the song “Just My Type”.
From the charming little band at the beginning of their career to the more complex line-up of their latest tour, Palaye Royale have always delivered an electrifying live performance, with the singer often hanging from light fixtures on the ceiling of the venue. Each of their concerts brings an element of unpredictability and danger, with the three of them playing as if their lives depended on it. Whether they’re taking to the stage at major festivals such as Reading and Leeds, Download and Pinkpop or playing to sold-out venues in Tokyo, London and Mexico City, the band’s overriding ambition is to deepen their connection with their beloved and loyal fan base, who call themselves Soldiers of the Royal Council. “When we first started doing our own tours, we’d stand outside the venue and hug every single person who came to see us,” says Emerson. “Even though it’s not possible to do that right now, we’re still trying to give everyone as much time as possible.”
Tickets for the Palaye Royale band concert can be found through the Eventim online system and at all physical Eventim points of sale.
